Title: Yoga Elements Part One: Theory & Pracice

Outline: In this introductory module, we will explore the elements of yoga – both theory and practice. The elements of yoga for this training are: asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation.  Detailed analysis and inquiry will develop and teach the student why each element is essential to the practice of yoga and growth of the teacher. Trainees will be taught how to incorporate these yogic practices into their life and how to transfer them when teaching.

The module will include theory of each topic, guided practice of all elements, discussion, lectures, study and a short practicum from each student.

Module # 2

Date: March 3rd – 4th 2017
Title: Anatomy and Physiology

Outline: This module offers students a foundation in yoga anatomy across bones, muscles, joints, organs and systems.  Integrating how the mechanics of the body fit into a yoga practice is important to keep the body safe. The principles of body mechanics will be applied to each posture through asana practice.  Students will gain an understanding of the planes of movement and the three platforms used to stabilize the body, helping to prevent common injuries.

Teaching will be conducted through asana practice, home study, lectures, tests and teaching practicums.

Module # 3

Date: March 31st –  April 2nd 2017
Title: Yoga Elements Part Two: Ethics and Teaching Methodology

Outline: Trainees will proceed with the practice and theory of asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation, while adding on the introduction to teaching methodology. Teaching with clarity and confidence; the importance of voice and body language and introduction to Sanskrit are some of the key focus points for this module.  Lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers will be taught and include topics such as student relationships and community & the value of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others.

Teaching will be conducted through lectures, class discussion & debate, study, practicums and the physical practice of asana, meditation, pranayama and mantra.

Module # 4

Introduction to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the birth of yoga and the development of modern yoga will be the key points of focus.  Trainees will study the eight limbs of yoga and the different branches of modern yoga to contextualize the practice, but most importantly, trainees will complete this module with a heightened sense of yoga as the union between body and mind.

Teaching will be conducted through lectures, class discussion, study and physical practice of asana, meditation, pranayama and mantra.

Module # 5

Date: June 2nd – 4th 2017
Title: Yoga Elements Part Three: Hands On Assist

Outline: The third module in the yoga elements series, this weekend will follow on from the first & second modules with the study and practical application of asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation but with a stronger focus on trainees asana and alignment development.  Trainees will be introduced to the more advanced practices in teaching including hands-on assists (how, when and why to assist students), reading alignment cues, theming and teaching practicums.

In this module, trainees will begin to develop their voice as a teacher, their style and approach. Trainees should expect to be practicing on the group and with friends and family openly and freely by this point.

Module # 6

Date: June 30th – July 2nd 2017
Title: Core Principles

Outline: The core principles of Pilates; centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flow, are also used to describe the principles of many kinds of yoga.  The two practices are quite different from each other and it is this that makes them so complimentary.  We will explore how the stabalising exercises in Pilates can build strength and stability to assist us in developing yoga asana.

Teaching will be conducted through lectures, class discussion, study and physical practice of asana, meditation, pranayama and mantra.

Module # 7

Date: August 4th – 7th 2017*
Title: Intelligent Sequencing

Outline: This module will lead trainees to teach intelligent sequencing for any class level of yoga. Although there are many different interpretations and styles of yoga, there is an overriding process to each practice that insures the safety and integrity of a correct and proper yoga class. This overriding process is intelligent sequencing: the optimal principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting.  Over the course of three days, students will study intelligent sequencing in vinyasa flow, yin yoga, hot yoga, restorative yoga and kundalini yoga – all taught by expert guest teachers.

Through practical application and the study of sequencing, trainees will learn how every class must be taught with the correct approach and use of asanas and vinyasana to deliver a safe, rewarding, inspiring and challenging class for all types and levels of student. This module will also include strategies for self-practice.

Module # 8

Date: September 8th – 10th 2017
Title: Yoga Elements Part Four: Teaching Methodology & Skills into Practice

Outline: Part four in the yoga elements series clarifies how all the yoga elements of asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra and intelligent sequencing gel together in a class setting.  Using The Yoga Hub’s teaching methodology template, trainees will learn about the theory of teaching and how to teach; group dynamics, communication, the cultivation of professional and friendly relationships with students, ethical boundaries, encouragement & positivity, time keeping & offering/receiving feedback will all be studied and discussed.

Strategies to incorporate these skills, including how to start and run a yoga class/business are included in this module.

Module # 9

Date: October 6th – 8th 2017
Title: Yoga Philosophy

Outline: Following on from history and evolution of yoga, trainees will partake in an in-depth study of The Yoga Sutras in this module. The teaching will make the sutras accessible for all students and discuss ways of integrating them into practice, teaching and life.  The ancient texts of yoga including the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Upanishads and The Bhagavad Gita will be examined and analysed, along with some modern texts.

The guiding principles and universal wisdom of yogic philosophy will be encapsulated through study of the texts, discussions and debate on relevant topics and lectures from expert teachers.

Module # 10

Date: October 27th – October 30th 2017*
Title: Yoga For All

Outline: The final module will prepare trainees and equip them with the skills to teach yoga for specific uses. There will be individual lectures, practicums and guest teachers to lead trainees through the theory and practical application of teaching yoga for: pre-natal yoga, yoga for sports, injury prevention and yoga therapy.

*Please note every module will consist of two daily asana practices and guided meditations to transform and strengthen your practice. Students participating in the full 200 hour teacher training will be assigned a mentor to shadow, assist and receive individual guidance and help.
