I absolutely adore dogs as they are a constant source of love and amusement when you need it most. I also believe that dogs provide us with some valuable life lessons to help us live happier lives. Here are a few ‘doggy inspired’ mantras that can help you to get the most out of life.

1. Be present

Whether it is chasing a cat, begging for treats, chewing on your favourite shoes or simply enjoying a daily walk with their human, dogs live in the present moment.

Be More Dog: Lesson 1: The past is done. The future is unknown. Live in and enjoy the present moment.

2. Get out and play
Dogs love to play, which usually involves lots of exercise. Our canine companions get so excited at any opportunity to get out for a walk, go for a swim in the sea or simply rolling around in the back garden. Playing opens up your mind to all kinds of new ideas and creativity.

Be More Dog: Lesson 2: Play and move your body every day. It is important to choose an exercise you enjoy.

3. Jump around

Have you ever seen a dog absolutely lose its mind by jumping up in the air in the anticipation of a ball being thrown? The same excitement can be induced when a dog realises that they are going to get a treat or even getting out for a walk.

Be More Dog: Lesson 3: Get excited and celebrate your life on a daily basis. Find the things that make you jump for joy and embrace the feeling of excitement. For me I can feel this way by simply buying a carton of chocolate milk (absolutely love the stuff:))

4. Be yourself.

I’m pretty sure a jack russell terrier doesn’t envy the soft coat of a golden retriever.  I also doubt a pug sits at home wishing they could be a bit more lean like a greyhound.
We waste so much time trying to make ourselves look a certain way instead of loving our individual features and our unique selves.

Be More Dog: Lesson 4: Love everything about yourself — the good, the bad and the ugly.

5. Enjoy the journey.

Have you ever noticed a dog with his head out the window of a car? They stick their head out the window and embrace the wind smashing them in the face. The dog has no idea where the car is going but they are 100% enjoying the ride.
Although it is great to set goals in life, we often forget that it’s the journey that matters most.

Be More Dog: Lesson 5: Next time you set a goal, be open to other possibilities. Inevitably, things may not go according to plan so enjoy the detour and be grateful for the lessons you learn along the way.

Clearly it can be said that we can learn a lot from our furry friends. Hope the above can help you to put things in to perspective and be more dog. 🙂

Thank you so much for reading.

Happy, determined, positive and focused healing to you all.

I started YogaHub out of a room at the back of someone else's house back in 2012 with nothing more than an idea. I'd been teaching Yoga since 2008 and had no intention of opening a Yoga Studio. I think, like everything I've done, I just decided one day I was going to give it a try. And try I did and if you're reading this I guess I'm still trying.
