Pilates/Barre Class Styles & Descriptions

Mat Pilates

What is it?

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on controlled movements, breathing techniques, and mindful body awareness to tone and strengthen the muscles, improve posture and flexibility, and enhance overall physical and mental well-being.

What are the benefits?

Pilates typically engages the core muscles, including the abdominals, back, and pelvic floor, and emphasizes the integration of the whole body. The practice of Pilates promotes a sense of balance, mind-body connection and harmony, and can be a valuable tool for injury prevention, rehabilitation and stress reduction.

Who is it for?

Pilates is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced. This is because the exercises not only can be built in difficulty, but also every exercise can be modified to decrease or increase the level of challenge.

Barre

What is it?

Barre is inspired by ballet, Pilates, yoga and strength training. The class typically focuses on small, pulsing movements with an emphasis on form, alignment and core engagement.

What are the benefits?

Barre is the perfect way to build muscle while increasing your flexibility and mobility. It can help you tone those hard-to-reach places as the movements are designed to target very small specific muscle groups with a focus on working your core, arms, glutes, thighs and abdominals.

Who is it for?

All levels welcome that have general population mobility except those who are recovering from injury.
