This is the second chakra. It is located around the sacrum, the bowl of the pelvis, and surrounds the reproductive organs. The sacral chakra is all about creation, emotion, and the ability to accept change. When we have a sense of creativity, emotional maturity, balanced sexuality and fearlessness in the face of change, it indicates a balanced sacral chakra.

Physically, this chakra is associated with our ability to reproduce; to create. The organs of reproduction are the basic physical parts of this chakra. When you think about how these organs operate, you can physically witness how a woman’s menstrual cycle is in consistent change. Likewise, men have hormonal cycles that go through similar changes. When we feel confident in our creation and harmonious with the flow of our internal and external changes, we are connecting to the energy in our sacral chakra.

Emotionally, a person can have a sense of creativity and embracing change in every aspect of their life. Being creative is not limited to art or producing children. Being creative can be making a sandwich for lunch, or thinking up a brilliant business plan, or simply creating positive interactions with people in your life. Creation is about being passionate and grateful for all you do, no matter how small it may seem. It’s about confidently embracing all aspects of your life and fearlessly trusting in the natural flow of change–trusting that water will find its level. This can be scary because it requires letting go of control and allowing yourself to enjoying small successes. But you might be surprised how little control is necessary to sustain a harmonious, supportive balance of emotions and creativity.

Additionally, the sacral chakra connects us with our emotions and intimacy. When we understand that our emotions are helpful indicators, meant to guide us through life’s changing currents, we can learn to listen to ourselves. And when we honour our bodies and our intimate relationships with partners, friends, family, and even acquaintances, we create a nurturing environment for ourselves to grow and connect.

A balanced Svadhisthana chakra will have these qualities: Creativity, Sensuality, Emotional and Sexual Harmony, Confidence in Change, Healthy Intimacy In Relationships

An unbalanced Svadhisthana chakra will have these qualities: Holding on to Past Hurt, Remaining in a Relation for False Security, Passion-less Action

Ways to connect with and balance your Svadhisthana chakra:

Yoga Practice: Lower Abdominal Breathing, Cobra, Supta Baddha Konasana, Warrior II, Trikonasana, Nataranjasana, Pigeon, Happy Baby, Sitting or Standing Wide-Legged Forward Fold, Hanumanasana

Affirmations: I feel balanced, safe, and full of life. I feel clear and confident in expressing love. I feel passionate about my being. I honour my body, my sexuality, and my intimate connections. I embrace change in all its shapes and forms. I trust in the ease and flow of life.

I started YogaHub out of a room at the back of someone else's house back in 2012 with nothing more than an idea. I'd been teaching Yoga since 2008 and had no intention of opening a Yoga Studio. I think, like everything I've done, I just decided one day I was going to give it a try. And try I did and if you're reading this I guess I'm still trying.
