Hi Yogis! It’s the month of all things L-O-V-E – And we’re here to give you some tips on tending to the most important relationship in your life – the one you have with yourself! (Cheesy, I know, but hey. It’s Valentine’s day.) Why not devote this Valentine’s Day to self-love, self-care, and doing all the things that YOU really love? Here are our favourite ways to practice self-love.

Treat yo’self!

Take a leaf out of Donna and Tom’s book (if you’re not a Parks and Rec fan, sorry for the reference – but also, go watch it right now and you’ll thank me later) and do something to treat yourself. That could be buying yourself a nice cup of coffee when you usually make your own, going to a yoga class, or buying yourself something small you’ve had your eye on for a while.

Pamper yourself

If you have a bath in your home, take one. If not, a long hot shower can be just as nice 🙂 Afterwards, moisturise your whole body with love and kindness, not rushing through like it’s another chore but really mindfully massaging your skin and giving gratitude to your body for carrying you through your day. You could use a face mask, a hair mask, anything that feels nourishing for you and your physical body. We’re kind of hard on them a lot of the time, so it’s nice to show ’em some love.

Do some yoga

I mean, you can’t be surprised that this is on the list 😉 If you can’t make it to a class, throw on your favourite playlist (some love songs, perhaps?) and get on the mat at home. Try incorporating some heart-opening poses like Camel and Locust for some bonus self-love points. My personal favourite is a Restorative Bridge pose – just come into Bridge as normal and then slide a block (at any height that suits you) underneath your sacrum. And breathe. Mmmm.

Write it out

Make a list of 3 things you love about yourself – and that’s 3 minimum. And then text someone you love something you love about them. Imagine getting a message like that! Brightening someone’s day like that will increase that warm fuzzy lovey feeling deep inside you, too.

Switch off the phone for a while

I love Instagram as much as the next person, and really do think its a wonderful tool for creativity and inspiration. However, it’s also a really easy gateway into comparison, which is self-love’s biggest nemesis. Focus on how wonderful you are, and forget about everybody else for a night.

There you have it! Do you have any other ideas for celebrating self-love this Valentine’s Day (and every day)? Let us know in the comments! <3
